Copenhagen & Stockholm by neko: Friday morning, 5am. I've had a bit too many drinks the night before and now I'm sitting in Stansted Express on my way to the airport with a hangover and no sleep but manage to get myself on my £15 Easyjet flight to Copenhagen for a weekend of more Prodigy shows and travelling. Considering when writing this it's Friday one week later now and I still haven't had any proper sleep since, no full report this time, just a couple of impressions about the two shows in Scandinavia ... The Setlist: Wake Up Intro A new, yet unnamed, track gets debuted in Copenhagen! My secret spies tell me Liam only just wrote this in the afternoon before the gig in his hotelroom, then tested it at the soundcheck and decided to play it at the show. At the Copenhagen show the track sounds still basic (which is not a bad thing in this case at all) with hard beats and Maxim improvising vocals about 'new religion' etc. In Stockholm then Liam has already rewritten the track slightly, changed some arrangements and added a vocal sample ("I cant frequent these frequencies" - something like that) and Maxim vocals. It's a very hard track, if you're into Prodigy for the hard beats, you will like it. Doesn't necessarily sounds like AONO but definitely very Prodigy. Warning grows on me more everytime I hear it, Keith is fantastic on this and I love the guitar sample. So much energy in this tune, amazing. Girls / More Girls - either the transition between the two has changed or grown on me, I really like this now. Although not your typical Prodigy live track, this is a standout in the set. The transition into Hotride sounds much better now. I'm still not too keen on the Hotride live version although it has slightly changed now with some build up in the middle of the track. All links are so much better again and the set as a whole sounds smoother. A few very minor errors at the Stockholm show, almost going unnoticed (what was that, at the end of Poison?). In Stockholm after 2 or 3 tracks Maxim throws his whole coat into the audience. Anyone taking bets about how long it will take for parts of it to turn up on ebay? The Supoport DJs In Copenhagen the support act is particularly bad ... someone calling himseld "DJ 2000F" or something like that. The guy plays some really bad Drum n Bass and other crap. He's trying to be "crazy" though, pretends to be soooo into it, jumps stupidly and hits his fist into the air. Then he's joined by some MC who's equally bad and there's a third guy in a yellow shirt who's just standing there with them on stage, handing them their beer cans and pretending to be very cool. In Stockholm the DJ is pretty decent, playing breakbeats and stuff, no complaints here. Again here, the band come on equally early, which isn't too bad either. The venue & atmosphere In Copenhagen the KB Hallen is a quite large, very high venue, which develops quite an echo in it. It's only about half full, so there's plenty of space, even at the front. The audience is rather peaceful, but very into it when the band come on. I also meet some familiar faces again: My sister, who's here for the week. Damon, who's travelled over from California to see the band at these two shows, and Yuki, who has come over from Tokyo to see them. And my friend AnnBritt who, after coming to Iceland with me, was sent to hospital with some rare 40 degrees fever, has escaped her hospital bed and come out to see the band, just to go straight to hospital again afterwards ... In Stockholm the venue is tiny, looks very dark and gets crowded very soon. The audience is very aggressive and not too friendly. Before the show some 15 year old girl in neon pink tells me to stop talking to my friends so she can 'listen to the music' and during 'warning' I end up having a fight with some aggressive guy who keeps hitting us into the ribs with his elbow on purpose (turns out afterwards he broke my friends ribs). So looks like I'm not too popular with the locals here. Overall Copenhagen has to be the best show on the tour so far in my eyes, Stockholm very enjoyable as well though. Amazing to hear another new track already, so soon after the album release already, made me pretty speechless at the Copenhagen show. Was invited to have a few drinks with the band after the show, very nice to see them all reunited at all. Liam also admitting to a secret '2 bottles of Champagne a day' habit during the writing process of AONO. Yet he still keeps pretending it was Reason who saved him ... ! back to prodigy live [go home] www.nekosite.co.uk - copyright © 1998-2004 by neko - all rights reserved |
