Spain Part 1/4 - Madrid by neko: Brief update on the Madrid show... The venue, 'La Riviera' is pretty cool and small. Roundly shaped with bars (always a good thing) going around and palm trees in the middle. Support is from some local DJ's, playing very good stuff, warming up the audience. By 10pm Prodigy come on. Same Wake Up Intro to start with, then Wake Up Call. We're a bit at the side this time, people arent pushing that much, so lots of room to dance along for once. The sound is great, the atmosphere is cool, looks like this is going to be a good one! Next on Warning, again, Keith is brilliant on this, I love the track. Then a great link brings us to Their Law, my favourite of all tracks ever anyways. Spitfire now Maxim dominating on stage, same with Girls / More Girls. ALL links between tracks are working now, there are no weird transitions and you can tell this set has been worked on since the last shows. Now Breathe, i usually would say here the audience goes wild, but we're all so into it already it doesn't even make a difference. The intro to Medusas Path is now also new, but a bit quiet. Later, Medusas Path fades out and a new link leads into Hotride. This has got to be the best performance of Hotride yet, performance and sound are great and the live version starts to grow on me. Now after Hotride it get's even more exciting. At the last two shows, Copenhagen and Stockholm, Liam played a new track at this point in the set. Now, here in Madrid, he also plays a new track, but a totally different, new, one! The only thing familiar about this track are Maxim's vocals: "Take you back to school to teach you how to build guns". These vocals are of course known to some of you from the Leeds/Reading intro from 2002. The beats and the track itself are totally different though, at one point towards the end the beats almost remind me a bit of a tamer version of Breathe. Maxim does the main vocals for the trackwith Keith also adding one line. The track debuted in Copenhagen and Stockholm (in two different versions) does not get played. So these were probably unique versions never to be heard again (and you guys are still questioning why I go to see this band multiple times?) After this new track then The Way It Is. Again, I love the first half of this but then it gets slightly too long. This is really about the only thing not so perfect about this show I can say. Then there is a very short bit of Climbatize leading into Mindfields. Maxim now on stage performing another highlight of the show. Next on another surprise, Liam brings back that fill going by the name 'Seat Beach Rock' fill. If i'm not mistaken it's a tiny bit reworked but still very similar to it's original. Next on the Firestarter before the band then leave the stage. Of course people want an encore, so they return. Now, Poison is next, but comes in a slightly different form. First there is a new intro to Poison which is once more a masterpiece by itself. The end of Poison is reworked, with some new beats and little samples added. I'm liking it, it sounds very fresh. And the main part of the track remains as we know and love it. Last track is of course Smack My Bitch Up. Good stuff, as always. Shame that Keith is not on stage, but he's stirring up the audience at the back while Maxim is on stage. All in all, brilliant show, best on this tour so far. Nice to see how it all starts to work together and definitely amazing to hear even more new stuff!
